A 20,000 square foot addition and remodel of 10,000 square feet of existing space, the project includes city administrative offices, council chambers, an emergency operations center and police station. Lewis Architecture + Interior Design developed a site master plan that allows for future building and parking expansion, but still preserves a large natural wooded area.

Natural light within the facility, the use of low maintenance materials and views to the outdoors are important parts of the final design.

Lacey desired to provide convenient "one-stop shopping" for citizens doing business with the City. The building is therefore organized around an extensive public counter area at which all the departments have a presence.

The council chamber is designed to allow for sightlines to presentation areas both from the public area and the council seats. The casework is portable, and can be reconfigured or rolled away to allow maximum room flexibility.

"This building has turned out to be a jewel in the Thurston County area, both in appearance and function. It has achieved acclaim from the public, the elected officials, and the entire City Hall staff"
- John Neff, Building Official
