This 30,000 square foot facility consolidates the city's administrative offices, council chamber and police station in downtown Kelso. As an initial step, the design team generated space needs, assisted with a site selection process and developed preliminary budgeting. Design work and construction followed.
City Finance, Administration and Public Works departments are housed in the new structure, along with Council Chambers and a new Police Station. Police facilities include administrative areas, evidence processing and storage space, short-term detention facilities, sally port and various support functions.
The building is located in historic downtown Kelso, an area that has been slowly declining in recent years. It is hoped that the new City Hall development will be a catalyst for development and renewed interest in this area.
The new City Hall combines traditional elements and materials with modern forms in an effort to represent a community with a rich history that is progressive and forward thinking. The building features a 3-story atrium space enclosing entry, lobbies, council chamber overflow and vertical circulation. Throughout the building are displays featuring historical artifacts and photographs from the Kelso area. Building facades incorporate brick, stucco and limestone and include historical features and detailing.
