In 2005 Sound Transit (ROW) planning required Dr. Silver’s dental building to be demolished to make way for the upcoming light rail line along ML King Jr. Way. This required that the dental practice be temporarily relocated until a new building could be built on a vacant parcel north of the existing site. It was recognized that a small eastern portion of the existing site could be utilized for temporary facilities until the new building was constructed. However, choices for temporary facilities were limited to a mobile trailer (or double trailer) into which Dr. Silver would have to move dental surgery and ancillary support over a 2 year period. The cost of this move plus added costs of another move into a new building were financially daunting for the practice. Moreover, the practice would have suffered in the quality of service to a stable base of patients in this area and require huge time periods of non service.
Dr. Silver engaged the assistance of SeaCon Construction and Lewis Architecture + Interior Design and Dannix Design to come up with a plan for the transition. Dr. Silver needed to move - immediately - and cost effectively. Through much cost analysis and some creative thinking a plan was reached to resolve the issue. A new building was to be designed on the north site, and a temporary building constructed for the practice that could later be moved intact down the street and into the new building. The temporary building was designed so that it could be moved and lifted into its final place in the new building on the second level. The building itself would become the container for the final move down the block. This solution proved to save a costly second move and enable Dr. Silver to have a quality practice environment for his patients without the down-time originally anticipated.. |
